AUGUST 2010

FROM THE LEADERBOARD…

Comrades,

I feel that my first meeting as Commander went well – at least no one has moved to begin impeachment proceedings…yet!  Revising the newsletter mailing list to include an optional email delivery was discussed, along with the formation of a Men’s Auxiliary.  Anyone having an immediate family member who is or was a veteran and can obtain a copy of their DD214 or some record of their service may qualify.  It will take 25 qualified men to launch, so anyone interested please let me know or come by the post and fill out an application.

Progress on the new building is going very well.  Tentative plans are to open the canteen in August & hold the Grand Opening in perhaps September.  An electric smoker is being raffled – tickets are $1 or 6 for $5 and are available now at the Annex.

Speaking of smoking, the survey and vote were 7-1 in favor of the smokers and the canteen will remain smoking.  However, the meeting room and banquet hall will be non-smoking.  Thanks to everyone for their input on this issue.

Please turn in any community service or youth assistance information you might have as soon as possible so that we may get it in to department.  Thanks for your efforts in this area & as always, thanks for your service.

Larry Cowden – Post Commander

Sisters,

There is an all-around feeling among Auxiliary members that this will be a banner year for our organization.  I loved the shared enthusiasm during the July meeting.  Special thanks to Vickie Boyer for her inspiring rendition of The Star Spangled Banner to kick off the meeting.

Ideas are coming in for the Grand Opening of the new post.  Raffle items were discussed and thanks go out to Nadge Pankey, Lois Lake & Stacey McCune for their help in securing raffle items.

We plan to continue our Wii-Wii Bowling League in September.  This is a great opportunity for fellowship & fun and new bowlers are always welcome.

Thanks for a great start to a great year.

Lavonda Gamage – Auxiliary President

During the recent meeting, the members of the Ladies’ Auxiliary voted to support the church project of member Frankie Malo, whose church has adopted troops in Afghanistan & are currently stuffing stockings to send at Christmas.  Suggested donations include hygiene items, phone cards, playing cards, candy & snacks.  A donation box has been set up at the Annex - please help us send a little Christmas cheer to these soldiers who can’t be home for the holidays.
